Position Overview
Role: Senior Director of Enterprise Data Governance
The Chief Data Office (CDO) serves as a pivotal function that delivers execution support for essential data governance and management initiatives. This office is instrumental in shaping the evolution of RBC's data strategy and influencing strategic investments in data to align with business objectives and regulatory compliance. The Senior Director role is an enterprise-level position responsible for leading Enterprise Data Governance within the CDO, reporting directly to the VP of Shared Data Management Services & Governance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement a data governance execution strategy to ensure effective and efficient data risk management practices across RBC on a global scale.
- Act as the primary liaison between the CDO and the second line, reviewing existing data management policies and standards while analyzing the current regulatory landscape to identify gaps and recommend enhancements.
- Collaborate with compliance teams to evaluate and communicate the implications of new regulations on enterprise data functions and data provisioning strategies.
- Lead efforts in enterprise data remediation by coordinating with both business and technology partners.
- Establish and disseminate CDO procedures and guidelines to ensure uniform execution of data risk management and governance practices globally.
- Oversee the effectiveness of CDO governance controls and lead risk and control self-assessment activities, continuously identifying areas for improvement.
- Represent CDO Data Governance across various risk domains, including Privacy, AI, Compliance, and Model Risk, while collaborating with partners to enhance RBC's maturity in these areas.
- Define and prioritize governance requirements for investments in data management automation.
- Serve as a key point of contact for regulatory, compliance, and audit matters related to data, providing insights on data risk management strategies.
- Collaborate with other data-related functions, including privacy, security, and IT, to drive the strategic management and control of data.
Qualifications:
Essential:
- 10 years of experience in data management within the financial services sector.
- 8 years of experience in data management roles.
- 2-4 years in risk management or governance within a financial institution.
- 2 years of experience in developing strategies.
- 2 years of experience in managing teams.
- Proven track record in implementing enterprise-wide risk programs.
- Strong knowledge of regulatory and legislative guidelines.
- Experience in project management, including planning and reporting.
- Excellent interpersonal and team facilitation skills.
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities.
- Able to thrive in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, comfortable engaging with stakeholders at all levels.
Preferred:
- Familiarity with Canadian and US regulatory reporting, including regulations such as BCBS 239, OCC Heightened Banking Standards, IFRS, and CCAR.
