Position Overview

Key Responsibilities -

  • Supervise and direct the submission of all GST/HST/QST, retail sales tax, insurance premium tax, and other periodic tax filings and payments, including the preparation of associated provisions and reconciliations.
  • Oversee and coordinate the preparation and submission of annual GST/HST & QST returns, along with Annual Information returns for designated financial institutions.
  • Manage the preparation and filing of annual premium tax returns for insurance entities.
  • Lead the design, implementation, and upkeep of indirect tax policies, procedures, and internal control documentation.
  • Identify and spearhead the execution of tax process enhancements and indirect tax opportunities.
  • Conduct research and analyze new tax legislation to assess its impact on the organization.
  • Review legal contracts and provide indirect tax guidance and technical support to ensure adherence to federal and provincial laws and regulations, while minimizing tax exposure.
  • Oversee internal and external indirect tax audits.
  • Manage tax compliance and governance initiatives.
  • Collaborate with various departments on tax-related issues and other special projects as necessary.

Candidate Profile


• CPA designation is required.

• 5-7 years of post-accounting designation experience in taxation.

• Strong analytical, accounting, and problem-solving abilities.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Proficient in Excel, Word, Taxprep, and SAP (preferred) with a willingness to learn new technologies.

• Capable of working independently and collaboratively within tight deadlines.

• Familiarity with the financial services sector.

• CPA In-Depth GST/HST certification.

• CPA Specialized GST/HST for Financial Institutions is advantageous.
