Job Summary: We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Youth Engagement Coordinator to join our team at the Nova Scotia Health Authority. The successful candidate will be responsible for working with youth, adults, schools, and communities to strengthen skills, instincts, abilities, processes, and resources to support children and youth as change agents.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement youth engagement strategies to empower communities and schools to meaningfully improve their health.
- Work closely with School Health Promoters, regional HPS teams, and other partners to support schools and communities to implement school-based and community-based HPS and youth wellbeing action plans.
- Build strategic partnerships, networks, coalitions, and collaborative working relationships with internal and external partners to support HPS planning and work.
- Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to develop and implement health promotion policies and programs.
- Provide technical assistance and support to schools and communities to develop and implement HPS and youth wellbeing action plans.
- Conduct needs assessments and evaluations to inform program development and implementation.
- Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including youth, adults, schools, and community organizations.
- Stay up-to-date with best practices in youth engagement, health promotion, and community development.
Requirements:
- Baccalaureate degree in Public Health, Health Promotion, Education, Community Youth Development, or other relevant field with relevant experience.
- Masters' degree preferred.
- Minimum of two years related job experience.
- Experience in working with youth, including developing and implementing youth engagement, peer mentoring, and knowledge and skills building strategies.
- Experience in planning, development, and evaluation of health promotion policies and programs.
- Demonstrated understanding of a population health and health promoting schools approaches.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders using a variety of methods.
- Demonstrated success in building strategic partnerships, networks, coalitions, and collaborative working relationships with internal and external partners to support HPS planning and work.
- Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary setting with a strong focus on school settings.
- Demonstrated planning, organizational, and time management skills. Ability to deal with competing priorities.
- Demonstrated judgment, decision making, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated negotiation and conflict management skills.
- Demonstrated innovative systems thinking with an understanding of working with schools and communities.
- Demonstrated knowledge of community development and mobilization.
