About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Youth Engagement Coordinator to join our Healthy Communities team at Nova Scotia Health Authority. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in working with youth, adults, schools, and communities to strengthen skills, instincts, abilities, processes, and resources to support children and youth as change agents.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in youth engagement, health promotion, and community development, with a solid track record in building partnerships. You will work closely with School Health Promoters, regional teams, and other partners to support schools and communities to implement school-based and community-based health promotion and youth wellbeing action plans.

We are looking for a candidate who is passionate about empowering communities and schools to improve their health. If you have a strong understanding of population health and health promoting schools approaches, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary setting, we encourage you to apply.

About You
  • Baccalaureate degree in Public Health, Health Promotion, Education, Community Youth Development, or other relevant field with relevant experience.
  • Masters' degree preferred.
  • Minimum of two years related job experience.
  • Experience in working with youth, including developing and implementing youth engagement, peer mentoring, and knowledge and skills building strategies.
  • Experience in planning, development, and evaluation of health promotion policies and programs.
  • Demonstrated understanding of a population health and health promoting schools approaches.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders using a variety of methods.
  • Demonstrated success in building strategic partnerships, networks, coalitions, and collaborative working relationships with a variety of internal and external partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary setting with a strong focus on school settings.
  • Demonstrated planning, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated judgment, decision making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated negotiation and conflict management skills.
  • Demonstrated innovative systems thinking with an understanding of working with schools and communities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of community development and mobilization.
About You Continued
  • Demonstrated knowledge in organization and behavior change and social movement theory, theories of school change, critical analysis, strategic framing.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Exceptional time management and priority setting skills.
  • Travel will be required for this community-based position- a valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle is required.
  • Competencies in other languages an asset.
Hours
  • Permanent Full Time/% FTE / 70 Hours Bi-weekly
Compensation and Incentives

$35.09- $44.10 Hourly

Successful candidates may be eligible for our benefits package which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage as well as a defined benefit pension plan. (Permanent Long Assignments Only)
