Operations Pharmacist Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Operations Pharmacist to join our team at Shoppers Drug Mart. As an Operations Pharmacist, you will play a key role in ensuring the delivery of high-quality pharmaceutical care to our patients in long-term care facilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Align with Company Policies and Procedures: Ensure that all pharmacy operations are aligned with company policies and procedures to enable pharmacists to deliver high-level pharmaceutical care.
  • Train and Supervise Dispensary Staff: Train and supervise dispensary staff as required to ensure they have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties effectively.
  • Assist in Setting and Achieving Financial Objectives: Assist in setting and achieving financial objectives for the company by managing inventory, controlling costs, and optimizing revenue streams.
  • Maintain Pharmacy Inventory: Ensure that pharmacy inventory is accurately managed, including ordering, receiving, and storing medications and supplies.
  • Provide Excellent Customer Service: Provide friendly and professional customer service to patients, families, and healthcare professionals, fostering strong relationships and building trust.
  • Practice Pharmacy within Scope of Practice: Practice pharmacy within the College's Scope of Practice and guidelines for providing pharmaceutical care, ensuring that all services are delivered in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure Narcotics are Properly Received and Recorded: Ensure that narcotics are properly received and recorded at the dispensary, adhering to company policies and procedures.
  • Maintain Current and Accurate Patient Profiles: Ensure that current and accurate patient profiles are maintained for all patients, including demographic information, medical history, and medication lists.
  • Perform Technical, Therapeutic, and Electronic MAR Checks: Perform technical, therapeutic, and electronic MAR checks of all medication entries to ensure accuracy and safety.
  • Provide, Document, and Bill Pharmaceutical Interventions: Provide, document, and bill all pharmaceutical interventions, opinions, and services as appropriate, in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Minimize Medication Incidents: Minimize medication incidents according to company policies and procedures, ensuring patient safety and well-being.
  • Participate in Continuous Learning: Participate in continuous learning activities and share relevant takeaways with other staff, staying up-to-date with the latest developments in pharmacy practice.
  • Document Patient Counselling: Document patient counselling in Kroll for all prescriptions as required by provincial regulations, ensuring accurate and complete records.
  • Assist in Ensuring Timely and Accurate Completion of Third-Party Processing: Assist in ensuring timely and accurate completion of third-party processing, billing, re-submissions, and reporting, adhering to company policies and procedures.
  • Protect Patient Privacy and Confidentiality: Protect patient privacy and confidentiality in accordance with regulations, ensuring that all personal and sensitive information is handled securely and discreetly.
  • Align with Federal and Provincial Pharmacy Regulations: Align with all federal and provincial pharmacy regulations, ensuring compliance and adherence to regulatory requirements.
Requirements:
  • Licensure: Must be licensed with the NB College of Pharmacists and in good standing.
  • Availability: Must be available to cover on-call services after hours on a scheduled rotational basis as required.
  • Experience: Preferred: minimum of two years of experience as a pharmacist in a long-term care, retail, and/or hospital pharmacy setting.
  • Communication Skills: Exemplary verbal and written communication skills.
  • Attention to Detail: A high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Organizational Skills: Superior organizational skills, with a commitment to provide exceptional customer service.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Be highly organized, takes initiative, and has excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
