Position Overview
The Eating Disorder Program at McMaster Children's Hospital serves children and adolescents facing eating disorders, providing a range of care options including outpatient, day treatment, and inpatient services. The inpatient unit is equipped with 8 beds and 4 day treatment spots, supported by a multidisciplinary team comprising nurses, physicians, dietitians, social workers, psychologists, and other specialists.
The Registered Nurse (RN) is an integral member of this interdisciplinary team, delivering care to youth with complex medical and mental health challenges associated with eating disorders such as anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa. The RN is expected to possess a strong foundation in mental health assessments, therapeutic relationship building, and the implementation of various treatment strategies.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care in a family-centered environment.
- Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and contribute to group activities.
- Engage with families and caregivers, ensuring effective communication and support.
- Facilitate health education for patients and families regarding the medical and psychological aspects of eating disorders.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation affecting pediatric and adolescent care.
Qualifications
- Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse.
- Certification in Canadian Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing.
- A minimum of 3 years of recent experience in a tertiary care setting with children and adolescents experiencing eating disorders.
- Demonstrated expertise in psychosocial and physical assessments, as well as intervention planning and delivery.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively within a team.
