Job Title: Junior Environmental Scientist

Vertex is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Junior Environmental Scientist to join our team in the Greater Toronto Area. As a key member of our environmental team, you will be responsible for conducting fieldwork, data collection, and analysis to support our environmental projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct fieldwork, including plant and invasive species identification, wildlife identification, wetland identification and delineation, soil classification, and weed spraying.
  • Support Vertex field leads in conducting Phase 1 and 2 Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs).
  • Collect and analyze data, including data tables, photographs, and inputting field data sheets.
  • Monitor soil conservation and reclamation activities.
  • Collaborate with the environmental team to ensure high-quality deliverables and meet project deadlines.
Requirements:
  • Diploma or higher post-secondary education in Reclamation, Soil Science, Environmental Science, Biological Science, Natural Resource Management, Forestry, or other applicable fields.
  • Understanding of remote area navigation and experience using maps, compass, GPS, and aerial photos for navigation in the field.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive trucks and/or various off-road vehicles in rough terrain.
  • Working knowledge of and ability to interpret environmental regulations, guidelines, and standards.
  • Ability to work in a team and independently.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office with advanced knowledge of Word and Excel.
  • Demonstrated communication and decision-making skills.
