We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Municipal Solicitor to join our team at the City of Brampton. As a key member of our Legal Services Division, you will play a critical role in providing legal advice and services to the Corporation and its departments.
Key Responsibilities- Provide Legal Advice and Services: Deliver competent and timely legal services to the Corporation and its departments, working in cooperation with Legal Services staff and City departments.
- Advise on Municipal Law: Provide written and oral legal and procedural advice to Council, staff, and committees on municipal law, including real estate, commercial, and development law.
- Prepare Legal Documents: Draft, review, and advise on contracts, including agreements related to land development, and conduct due diligence on property transactions.
- Negotiate on Behalf of the Corporation: Protect the Corporation's interests by negotiating with external parties, other levels of government, and their representatives.
- Represent the City: Represent the City before the Ontario Land Tribunal and other boards and tribunals.
- Education: Law degree and call to the Ontario Bar, with demonstrated interest in municipal and real estate, commercial, and development law.
- Experience: 3-5 years of related work experience, preferably in the municipal field, with a minimum of 5 years of experience in municipal or planning law.
- Skills and Assets: Exceptional communication skills, superior report writing, ability to prepare arguments and negotiate resolutions, and computer proficiency in MS Office suite software and online legal research.
