Job Title: Environmental Health Officer

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Environmental Health Officer to join our team at Fraser Health. As an Environmental Health Officer, you will be responsible for investigating complaints related to public health and environmental control matters, inspecting various types of facilities, and enforcing regulations to ensure compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct investigations into complaints related to public health and environmental control matters, and take appropriate action to ensure compliance with regulations.
  2. Inspect various types of facilities, including food processing and handling establishments, businesses, and residential care facilities, to ensure compliance with regulations.
  3. Enforce regulations and issue orders or recommendations as necessary to ensure compliance.
  4. Conduct epidemiological investigations into foodborne illness outbreaks, communicable diseases, and other public health concerns.
  5. Participate in continuous quality improvement activities and contribute to the development of improved standards and controls.
  6. Provide consultation, education, and technical support to clients, including the general public, private industry, and government agencies.

Qualifications:

Education, Training & Experience:

A Bachelor of Technology in Environmental Health degree, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Certificate in Public Health Inspection (Canada) granted by the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors (CIPHI). Eligible for registration with the BC Branch of the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors. Pesticide Applicator's certificate. Valid BC Class V Driver's License and possession of a personal vehicle.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to analyze and interpret test and inspection results, and determine compliance or corrective action.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to work independently under limited supervision.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex technical documents.
  • Ability to enforce regulations and issue violation tickets in a calm, firm, and consistent manner.
