Qualifications and Requirements

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Child and Youth Outreach Counsellor to join our team at Island Health. The successful candidate will possess a Baccalaureate Degree in a health-related discipline and be eligible for registration with the appropriate Health Regulatory College and/or licensing body.

With a minimum of two years' recent experience in crisis intervention and risk assessment, the ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of mental health and substance use issues, as well as experience with psychiatric and suicide risk assessments, crisis intervention and response techniques, and knowledge of available programs and services.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with clients, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team, with a focus on providing high-quality client-centered care.
  • Ability to work effectively in high-pressure situations, with a strong focus on crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques.
