Role Description:

Reporting to the Manager of Professional Practice, the Clinical Practice Advisor is responsible for fostering an environment of excellence in practice to enhance care delivery in alignment with our objectives of high-quality, safe patient care and outstanding patient experiences. This role involves collaboration with Patient Care Services and various enabling teams, including Clinical Systems & Informatics, Quality, Risk, and Patient Experience.

The ideal candidate will provide leadership, consultation, and support to various programs and departments on initiatives aimed at cultivating a quality practice environment and promoting excellence in clinical practice. The successful individual will demonstrate the ability to leverage current evidence, engage stakeholders effectively, and apply change management strategies, along with a solid understanding of improvement and implementation science to lead clinical transformation within an interprofessional context.

By nurturing strong relationships and exemplifying leadership behaviors, the Clinical Practice Advisor will contribute to a culture of practice excellence, patient safety, and enhanced patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Spearhead strategic and complex practice initiatives in collaboration with Patient Care Services to promote practice excellence.
  • Advance best practices and implement changes through leading initiatives across programs and the organization, utilizing current evidence and stakeholder engagement strategies.
  • Involve key stakeholders at all organizational levels in the planning and execution of significant practice initiatives that promote the standardization of evidence-based practices.
  • Provide consultation for the establishment and maintenance of shared governance structures, including unit-level and discipline-specific practice councils.
  • Advocate for the organization’s commitment to the Best Practice Spotlight Organization (BPSO) designation through the implementation, sustainment, and evaluation of Best Practice Guidelines (BPG).
  • Facilitate the standardization of practice by representing the organization on various corporate and program committees.
  • Collaborate closely with enabling services such as Quality, Patient Safety and Risk, Clinical Systems and Informatics, and Patient Experience to ensure alignment and coordination of practice initiatives.
  • Participate in practice scholarship activities in line with the organization’s goal of becoming a Learning Health System.
  • Offer professional practice support and guidance to leadership, clinical programs, and professional practice leader groups across the organization.
  • Utilize clinical expertise to champion a practice improvement approach through the development, implementation, and evaluation of evidence-based best practices and quality metrics.
  • Analyze clinical performance data to identify opportunities for practice enhancement and provide advisory support to Patient Care Services.
  • Maintain connections with Professional Colleges and Associations.

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be a regulated health professional in good standing with their respective college.
  • A Master’s degree in a health profession, health administration, education, or a related field is essential.
  • A minimum of five years of clinical experience in an acute care hospital setting is required.
  • At least five years of experience in a complex healthcare environment, including progressive professional practice, project management, and leadership experience.
  • Proven experience in utilizing evidence, knowledge dissemination, and collaborative partnerships to plan, develop, implement, and evaluate practice initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of practice excellence, clinical best practices, and evidence-based care.
  • Familiarity with research methodologies and experience in scholarly practice.
  • Demonstrated experience in promoting interprofessional collaborative practice.
  • Knowledge of Patient and Family-Centered Care principles.
  • Comprehensive understanding of applicable legislation, regulatory standards of practice, and evidence-based practice standards.
  • Proven ability to lead and collaborate effectively as part of an interprofessional team, functioning as a leader, coach, mentor, and facilitator.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in quality improvement initiatives.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and supporting the learning of others.
  • Previous project management experience; PMP designation is an asset.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work, managing multiple projects while adapting to changing priorities and timelines.
