Job Summary

The Building Maintenance Power Engineer is responsible for operating the facility, including mechanical and supporting systems. This role involves performing structured inspections, preventative and corrective maintenance, routine and on-demand services on facility mechanical equipment and other systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provides observations about facility conditions, mechanical and electrical equipment, and systems, and suggests enhancements and repairs.
  • Performs work in accordance with established processes and practices.
  • Complies with internal and external requirements, including environmental, health and safety, and fire protection.
  • Monitors assigned facilities by conducting walkthroughs for mechanical, electrical, and other equipment system monitoring and inspection.
  • Operates facility mechanical and other systems.
  • Manages work order life cycles, progressing work from dispatched to completion, and records resolution data within the service maintenance management database.
  • Assists in implementing preventative maintenance programs, identifying deficiencies, recording, and escalating them, and maintaining related documents.
  • Enhances tenant and customer satisfaction and maintains positive relations through work performance and service delivery.
  • Participates in and assists with facility-related projects.
  • Ensures work is performed in compliance with corporate and legislated policies, procedures, practices, and guidelines related to environmental, health and safety, fire protection, and other applicable requirements.
  • Maintains assigned tools and arranges for repair and replacement as needed.
  • Submits expenditures on a timely basis.

Requirements

  • High school diploma plus trades training and/or certification or licensing.
  • Experience providing preventive and corrective maintenance on heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, or pneumatic or hydraulic systems.
  • Sound knowledge of processes and practices relating to facility operations and maintenance.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical and other building systems and equipment.
  • Possesses a strong environmental, health, and safety mindset.
  • Strong client-service orientation and a high sense of urgency.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Building Automation Systems (BAS) and HVAC Systems.
  • Effective communication skills for data relay, exchange, feedback, and clarification.
  • Mentoring skills to support lower-level technician development.
  • Ability to work shifts, be available for on-call/standby, and emergency call-outs as needed.
  • Strict adherence to Health and Safety policies, including wearing required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Capability of obtaining appropriate security clearance.
  • Valid driver's license.

Licenses and/or Professional Accreditation

  • 5th Class Power Engineer as a minimum.
  • 4th Class Power Engineer Certification is an asset.
  • Fireman Boilers Operator Certification is an asset.
  • Building Operator Certification or equivalent through an accredited institution is an asset.
