Building Maintenance Engineer

Under the supervision of the Maintenance Manager, the Building Maintenance Engineer performs semi-skilled manual maintenance and inspection tasks on heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems across various facilities managed by REAL. This role requires a significant degree of autonomy and the ability to make critical decisions, such as determining when to deactivate a boiler in emergencies. Any unusual circumstances will be escalated to a supervisor, who will also conduct visual assessments of the employee's routine work. The incumbent will be responsible for executing or overseeing a range of tasks related to the renovation and upkeep of buildings and facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain equipment and facilities by executing tasks such as repairs, installations, renovations, inspections, maintaining accurate records, and reporting issues.
- Prioritize health and safety by documenting all incidents and near misses, performing hazard assessments, and ensuring compliance with equipment and facility regulations.
- Occasionally assist with tasks outside the primary role, such as supporting electricians.
- Carry out additional duties as assigned.
Working Hours: Monday - Friday: 8:00am - 4:30pm
Qualifications
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

- Completion of Grade 12 education.
- Possession of a valid Driver's License, which must be maintained for this role.
- Proven experience in building maintenance and repair tasks.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changes while delivering quality work.
- Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
- 5th class power engineering certificate.
- Refrigeration engineers' certificate.
- Understanding of operations, services, and activities within a facility maintenance program.
- Familiarity with facility engineering principles and practices.
- Awareness of standards, codes, and regulations related to construction and maintenance of facilities and structures.
- Knowledge of building construction processes, equipment, tools, materials, and their applications.
- Proficiency in inspection and investigation techniques.
- Availability to work days, evenings, and weekends based on operational requirements.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check throughout employment.
