Objective

The Energy Services (ES) team is tasked with optimizing the company's risk-adjusted asset returns through effective portfolio management and market advisory services. The ES team is structured around three key areas: i) Portfolio Management (Trading/Hedging) ii) Client & Asset Support iii) Market Analytics. Reporting to the head of Market Analytics, the Data Engineer will play a vital role in the design, engineering, and implementation of Liberty's advanced data ecosystem. This analytical platform addresses the needs of various business units focused on economic, risk, and financial assessments related to Liberty's profitability and growth potential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop robust data pipelines for market, transactional, and generation data, transforming raw data into formats suitable for downstream applications that cater to both analytical and operational needs. This requires a deep understanding of distributed systems and computer science principles.
  • Establish, implement, and uphold effective data collection policies and methodologies. Ensure the seamless operation of data collection tools and applications at all times, aligning procedures with relevant regulations and guidelines.
  • Aggregate essential power market, transactional, and generation data from diverse sources and integrate it into a cohesive database. Design and implement APIs for data access.
  • Oversee data wrangling, extraction, security, discovery, and governance. Apply best practices in data science and software development, including the use of repositories and data flow diagrams.
  • Collaborate across teams to design, develop, test, implement, and support comprehensive technical solutions utilizing full-stack development tools and technologies.
  • Conduct unit testing and peer reviews to ensure code is meticulously designed, well-structured, and optimized for performance.
  • Assist in the creation of analytical tools for short, medium, and long-term energy marketing strategies.
  • Facilitate the development and automation of standardized reporting tools (e.g., position reports, Mark-to-Market reports).
  • Ensure data outputs are accurate and presented in a user-friendly format for end-users (e.g., Traders, Executives).
  • Responsible for scripting, reporting, and data visualization tasks.
Qualifications
  • Preferred Master's Degree in Data Analytics, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 3-5 years of experience in a data engineering or data analysis capacity.
  • Ability to quickly grasp and conceptualize business requirements, delivering insightful, data-driven solutions and developing tools in Python.
  • Advanced programming skills are essential, with experience in Snowflake infrastructure and proficiency in Python and Excel.
  • Strong skills in data structure, modeling, and analysis, with extensive knowledge of SQL, R, and Python coding.
  • Familiarity with Power Market Fundamentals (supply, demand, reserve margins, forward/settled prices) is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • High motivation and adaptability, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet tight deadlines.
Experience Requirements

3-5 years of relevant experience.
