A Snapshot of Your Day
As an EHS Specialist in the Wind Energy sector, you will be responsible for implementing and managing SGRE EHS programs at various assigned wind farms under O&M contract.
You will support the design and/or implementation of safety guidelines and instructions for occupational safety, fire prevention, dangerous goods, and emergency management for an assigned organization.
Your typical day will include site visits to climb towers to perform inspections of turbines to ensure technicians are set to work successfully and that all safe systems of work are in place.
You will also work in the office or home running risk assessment meetings to help the organization identify hazards and control measures for tasks or work activities.
Relocation will not be offered for this role.
How You'll Make an Impact
- Coordinate overall planning of projects and decide on the allocation of resources.
- Develop, propose, and implement function-specific EHS guidelines, processes, and/or methods.
- Compile and advise on instructions and regulations and ensure effective communication to every employee concerned.
- Plan the roll-out of safety programs for the unit assigned.
- Gather data and analyze respective statistics regarding the success of EHS management measures.
- Support or prepare regular external reporting for occupational safety authorities or for internal stakeholders.
- Maintain operational contact to external safety authorities.
- Keep abreast with all respective regulations and standards.
- Train management and employees on EHS topics.
- Facilitate the investigation of EHS incidents in the assigned area.
- Coordinate with customer and subcontractor representatives in EHS matters.
- Provide on-site support to work locations (climbing turbines, performing inspections or investigations, coaching employees, etc.).
- Possess the ability to work at height and successfully climb wind turbines for work and basic rescue in accordance with Global Wind Organization training standards.
- Lead and manage initiatives from self and/or SGRE.
What You Bring
- Bachelor's degree in EHS Education field, Occupational Health, or similar.
- Minimum of 3-7 years of relevant experience in EHS in the Wind Industry.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaborate with multiple areas of the organization.
- Ability to motivate and inspire others in working towards a common goal.
- Ability to work in cross-departmental teams and garner support for EHS-related activities.
- Solid communication skills both verbal and written.
- Experience and comfortability with presenting in front of small and large groups.
- Advanced computer skills with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Travel required up to 50%.
- Qualified applicants must be legally authorized for employment in Canada and be able to clear customs requirements for travel internationally for work and/or training in the USA.
