Role Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) reports directly to the Director of Care and serves as a pivotal leader, overseeing and coordinating the activities of the care team. The RN is responsible for ensuring that all care is delivered in alignment with established standards, regulations, and policies, while promoting holistic quality care that respects the dignity of each resident.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Actively engage as a collaborative team member, fostering professional relationships that enhance the organizational culture.
  2. Conduct assessments of residents' needs and develop individualized care plans that are regularly evaluated.
  3. Guide LPNs in reviewing and updating care plans, providing clinical decision-making support as needed.
  4. Administer medications and treatments in accordance with established protocols.
  5. Oversee community wound management, assisting LPNs with assessments and facilitating referrals to specialists as necessary.
  6. Deliver direct care to residents and collaborate with various disciplines to ensure high-quality care.
  7. Communicate effectively with physicians, community representatives, families, and volunteers.
  8. Support the transition process for new residents, working in harmony with team members and adhering to community protocols.
  9. Participate in Care Conferences in the absence of the Director of Care.
  10. Uphold residents' rights and promote a holistic approach to wellness.
  11. Serve as First Aid attendant during shifts, ensuring all incidents are documented appropriately.
  12. Maintain a safe environment for residents and staff through proactive measures and adherence to emergency procedures.
  13. Supervise care staff, assigning duties to ensure resident-focused care is consistently delivered.
  14. Provide clinical guidance to community care staff when the Director of Care is unavailable.
  15. Fulfill on-call clinical duties as required.
  16. Conduct community audits and compile data for review by the Director of Care.
  17. Assist in the orientation of new staff members.
  18. Offer educational resources and guidance on procedures to clinical staff, demonstrating best practices.
  19. Contribute to staff evaluations, supporting LPNs in mentoring and coaching HCAs.
  20. Engage in community programs, meetings, and educational sessions.
  21. Maintain confidentiality in all documentation, both paper and electronic, in accordance with established standards.
  22. Perform additional related duties as necessary.
Qualifications and Skills
  1. Graduate of an accredited Nursing program with a current license from the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) as an RN.
  2. Bachelor of Science in Nursing is preferred.
  3. Certification in Occupational First Aid Level 1 and CPR is required.
  4. Successful completion of annual Resident Assessment Instrument (RAI) competency testing.
  5. Experience in a long-term care setting is an asset.
  6. All candidates must pass a vulnerable sector Criminal Record Check as per provincial guidelines.
  7. Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English, with the ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  8. Basic computer skills, including familiarity with Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  9. Physical ability to lift, carry, and maneuver up to 25 lbs, and work with cleaning agents and equipment.
