Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Systems Design Engineer to join our Instrument Development Team at IDEXX Water. The successful candidate will have a background in electrical systems design and development for embedded systems, with a focus on developing high-accuracy and precision instrumentation solutions for potable and waste water applications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop electrical systems designs for instrumentation products, including circuit board design and prototyping.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop new product features and solutions, ensuring ease of use, cost-effectiveness, and reliability.
  • Analyze and develop specifications for electrical systems, including debugging and root cause analysis.
  • Implement design changes and modifications to existing systems, ensuring compliance with quality and manufacturing processes.
  • Develop and recommend facilities, suppliers, components, equipment, tools, and resources necessary for design, fabrication, implementation, and testing of electrical systems.
  • Support engineering functional excellence objectives and contribute to the development of personal engineering skills.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electromechanical, or Robotics Engineering, or closely aligned degree.
  • 3-5 years of experience in hardware development engineering, with a focus on electrical systems design and development.
  • Experience with circuit board design and prototyping, including PCB circuit design using KiCAD, Cadence, or equivalent.
  • Experience with lab equipment, including digital multi-meters, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and function generators.
  • First-rate problem-solving skills and ability to work well in a cross-site, cross-functional team environment.
  • Excellent written, presentation, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with board design (> 100 MHz) with one or more of the following: schematic entry, debugging, root cause analysis, and implementing corrective action.
  • Familiarity with common communication protocols, such as I2C, PCIe, USB, and Ethernet.
  • Working knowledge of C, C++, and Python code.
  • Experience with Microchip MPLAB IDE programming environments.
  • Analog and/or digital design knowledge/experience.
  • Soldering skills for SMD components.
  • Experience with product testing for DoC, FCC compliance.
  • Knowledge of optics and opto-mechanical system design.
  • Good understanding of chemistry and biological sciences.
  • Supply chain development using a hybrid selection of parts vendors to meet price constraints.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with non-technical team members to provide feedback on user/marketing requirements.
