Position Overview

The Government of Nunavut is seeking a qualified individual for the role of Power Systems Electrician. This position is vital for ensuring the reliability and safety of electrical systems across the territory.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs on electrical generation systems and associated equipment to maintain optimal performance.
  • Address issues with emergency electrical systems, ensuring timely repairs and replacements as necessary.
  • Travel to various locations to perform routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and general repairs on electrical generation systems.
  • Collaborate with the Engineering department to review design specifications and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Work alongside other trades and personnel to ensure the successful completion of projects within budget and timelines.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance documentation and coordinate with relevant departments for updates.
  • Engage with external organizations, including financial institutions and stakeholders, as required.
  • Provide immediate solutions during outages to restore systems while minimizing equipment risk.
  • Uphold a clean and safe working environment, proactively suggesting improvements for operations and equipment.
  • Coordinate with inventory management to ensure necessary electrical supplies are available.
  • Adhere to corporate policies, health, safety, and environmental regulations in all work activities.
  • Communicate with local authorities regarding power interruptions affecting communities.

Qualifications:

  • Certification as a Power Systems Electrician or equivalent is required.
  • Red Seal certification is considered an asset.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience in diesel power generation is advantageous.

Preference will be given to Nunavut Inuit.
