Role Overview: The Material Handling division within Fluor's Mining and Metals sector engages in comprehensive design and mechanical engineering for large-scale belt conveyors, crushing and screening systems, bulk material storage and reclaim solutions, as well as loading and unloading facilities for rail and shipping in the mining sector. The ideal candidate will oversee mechanical engineers and CAD designers, ensuring the development of efficient facilities that may include various aspects of the aforementioned scopes to support client projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop material handling systems for crushing and screening facilities, including equipment selection and sizing.
  • Calculate storage stockpile sizes and bins, designing reclaim arrangements accordingly.
  • Engineer conveyor systems, conducting necessary calculations and determining drive and take-up specifications.
  • Draft and assess specifications for diverse material handling equipment, establishing design criteria.
  • Evaluate vendor lists, prepare quotation requests, and assess substitutions for technical compliance.
  • Lead the review process for vendor documentation related to purchased equipment.
  • Manage engineering budgets, schedules, and quality across all project phases.
  • Prepare trade-off study reports that analyze technical and commercial factors, leading to informed recommendations.
  • Engage in professional development through mentoring and coaching of team members.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Candidate Requirements:

Must possess authorization to work in the location of the position.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Four-year accredited university degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
  • A minimum of ten years of experience in bulk material handling engineering and design.
  • Professional certification or registration with a recognized engineering association.
  • Familiarity with mining material handling equipment such as crushers, conveyors, screens, and loading/unloading systems.
  • Proficient in interpreting drawings, process flow diagrams (PFDs), and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Effective communication skills in English, capable of engaging with management, colleagues, clients, vendors, and consultants.
  • Willingness to work in the designated office environment (note: hybrid work arrangements may be available depending on the project).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • In-depth knowledge of belt conveyor standards and industry practices (CEMA, ISO, DIN).
  • Previous experience with comminution circuits and/or port storage and ship loading operations.
  • Familiarity with belt conveyor design software such as Sidewinder and Newton.
  • Hands-on field and manufacturing experience.

Compensation:

Salary range is between 111,000 and 215,000.

Market Rate:

The market rate for this role typically aligns with the midpoint of the salary range, with variations based on qualifications, experience, geographic location, internal pay equity, and market conditions.
