Job Overview
Reporting to the Preventive Maintenance Supervisor, the incumbent is tasked with executing a variety of preventive maintenance (PM) activities and supporting trades personnel in their routine responsibilities.
Key Duties
- Collaborates with and supports trades personnel, project leaders, consultants, and contractors as necessary.
- Maintains and repairs non-electrical elements of lighting fixtures, including bulbs and shades.
- Ensures proper disposal of used lamps and maintains sufficient inventory levels, including ballasts.
- Conducts field audits to collect relevant information for the development and adjustment of PM routines.
- Performs PM inspections on various components such as interior/exterior lights, exit signs, restrooms, doors, and battery-operated smoke detectors.
- Addresses deficiencies identified during PM inspections and refers certified trades work to the Maintenance Supervisor or relevant trades personnel for action.
- Cleans pits and drainage areas as needed.
- Inspects and cleans roofs, including drains and gutters.
- Maintains cleanliness in mechanical rooms.
- Utilizes appropriate products and techniques to remove graffiti.
- Handles toilet plunging tasks.
- Adheres to the current Occupational Health and Safety Act as well as institutional and governmental regulations.
- Maintains a tidy work environment.
- Performs additional duties as required.
Note
The role does not involve performing certified trades work. Due to operational needs, the successful candidate is expected to work on-site.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma with 3 to 5 years of experience in building maintenance.
- Completion of a Building Service Technician course is preferred.
- Electrical and/or mechanical skills are advantageous.
- Ability to read, interpret, and prioritize work orders is essential.
- Proficiency in using relevant tools of the trade.
- Comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces.
- General safety training, including fall protection and WHMIS, is beneficial.
- Strong communication and organizational skills are required.
- Dependable and punctual.
- Ability to follow directions effectively.
- Willingness to work overtime as necessary.
- Familiarity with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and relevant regulations is required.
- Basic computer skills are an asset.
