Position Overview: We are seeking a dependable and diligent individual to fulfill the role of a 2nd or 3rd Class Licensed Power Engineer at our Winnipeg facility. Reporting directly to the Chief Engineer, the successful candidate will be an integral part of the operations team, responsible for overseeing all facets of power plant operations. This role requires close collaboration with colleagues in Production, Wastewater, and Maintenance departments to meet production demands in a dynamic manufacturing environment.
Work Schedule and Compensation:
- 12-hour Rotating Continental Shifts
- Compensation: 2nd Class - $53 per hour, 3rd Class - $45 per hour
- Shift premiums: $0.85 for afternoons and $1.25 for weekends
- Overtime pay available after 40 hours in a week

Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of a first-class high-pressure steam plant, including compressor systems, cooling towers, air makeup units, and air quality control facilities.
- Manage the maintenance of boilers, cooling water systems, wash water, steam distribution, and compressed air systems.
- Actively engage in the Health and Safety program, conducting pre-task inspections, implementing Lockout/Tagout procedures, and addressing hazards.
- Support the facility's energy management and reduction initiatives.
- Maintain and operate high-pressure boilers within specified temperature and pressure design parameters.
- Conduct water testing and maintain critical parameters within specified ranges for boiler water, feed water, and cooling water.
- Perform routine inspections and report deficiencies to the Chief Engineer.
- Keep accurate logs of all activities and analyze data for corrective actions.
- Ensure accurate inventories of all utilities, including chemicals and testing equipment.
- Maintain a clean and functional work area.
- Assist shift supervisors and operators in diagnosing process issues, including resetting motor starters and variable frequency drives.
- Serve as a relief powerhouse shift engineer, performing preventive maintenance and managing spare parts orders.
Qualifications:
- Valid 2nd Class Power Engineer Certificate or 3rd Class Power Engineer Certificate with significant progress towards 2nd Class, having passed at least three of the six 2nd Class exams.
- 3 to 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Experience as a pipe fitter or millwright is an asset.
- Familiarity with boilers, cooling towers, and related equipment.
- Experience operating air quality control systems is preferred.
- Project management and new boiler commissioning experience is advantageous.
- Reliable, punctual, and a team player with the ability to work independently.
- Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
- Willingness to work overtime.
- Proven ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Self-motivated with the capability to complete assignments with minimal supervision.
