The Mutual Fire Insurance Company of British Columbia is expanding and is looking for an Agricultural Risk Assessment Specialist to become part of our dedicated team.

Established in 1902, Mutual Fire Insurance is recognized as the first mutual insurance provider based in British Columbia. Currently, we offer comprehensive solutions for agricultural, commercial, and residential insurance needs across various regions.

Our commitment lies in prioritizing our members through innovative initiatives, technological advancements, and community support.

Our subsidiary, Four Points Insurance, specializes in delivering tailored insurance solutions for small to medium-sized enterprises in both suburban and rural settings.

Founded in 2022, Four Points Insurance aims to assist small businesses in navigating the challenges they encounter today and in the future.

With a strong emphasis on customer service and risk management, Four Points Insurance provides business owners with a diverse range of commercial insurance packages.

In late 2021, Mutual Fire Insurance established two employee-led committees, an ESG Committee and a Purpose Committee, to enhance our sustainability efforts within the community while adhering to environmental, social, and governance standards.

The Opportunity

This position is a permanent full-time role.

The successful candidate will be tasked with assessing and determining the acceptability of risks, pricing, coverage, terms, and conditions associated with our Agricultural product.

A strong emphasis on profitability, while nurturing and sustaining exceptional relationships with both new and existing broker partners, is crucial for success in this role.

Responsibilities
  • Evaluate and assess new and existing business opportunities
  • Communicate and negotiate coverage, terms, and pricing with broker partners
  • Implement a practical approach to underwriting and relationship management
  • Stay informed about market trends, pricing levels, and legal requirements
  • Apply loss control and risk management strategies
  • Cultivate and maintain robust relationships with internal and external stakeholders
Here's what you bring
  • A designation in property and casualty insurance and/or risk management
  • A minimum of five years of relevant underwriting experience or equivalent experience in the insurance sector
  • Proven proficiency in underwriting basic to moderately complex agricultural property portfolios
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking abilities
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive information
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks effectively, work independently, and manage time efficiently
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Comprehensive understanding of the marketplace
  • Ensure compliance with corporate guidelines, documentation, and delegated authority
  • High proficiency with Office 365
  • Perform additional duties as required
