About Our Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Policy Analyst to join our team at the Department of Health and Wellness in Nova Scotia. As a key member of our policy development team, you will play a critical role in shaping the future of healthcare in our province.

In this role, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing large projects related to healthcare policy, research, and procedural matters. You will work closely with senior department staff to provide expertise and advisory services, and will have the opportunity to work directly with provincial and inter-governmental healthcare stakeholders.

As a Senior Policy Analyst, you will be responsible for:

  • Developing and evaluating policy options and related background material;
  • Leading aspects of the legislative process, including preparation of submissions to Executive Council;
  • Preparing reports, briefing books, and responses relating to healthcare system issues in Nova Scotia;
  • Leading and/or participating in working groups on specific policy issues;
  • Working within a team to coordinate stakeholder consultations and other public meetings;
  • Preparing briefing notes and correspondence for senior departmental staff on a wide range of matters related to the department's mandate.

Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A bachelor's degree in a health-related field;
  • At least six years of progressive experience in a related field and policy experience;
  • Working experience with research and analysis, policy development, and legislative processes;
  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to build collaborative working relationships;
  • Knowledge of and/or experience within the provincial legislative environment;
  • Familiarity with legislation which falls under the DHW mandate.
