About the Role

Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking a skilled Clinical Psychologist to join our team in Powell River, BC. As a Clinical Psychologist, you will be responsible for providing high-quality psychological assessments, treatment, and education to clients. You will work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team to deliver evidence-based psychological practice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive psychological assessments to identify client needs and develop effective treatment plans.
  • Provide individual and group therapy sessions to clients, using a range of evidence-based techniques.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to develop and implement treatment plans that meet client needs.
  • Develop and maintain accurate and comprehensive client records, including progress notes and treatment plans.
  • Participate in quality improvement and risk management activities to ensure high-quality care.

Requirements

  • Master's or Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from a recognized university.
  • Two years of recent experience in clinical psychology, including therapeutic, diagnostic, and consultation services.
  • Current registration with the College of Psychologists of British Columbia or registration within two years of employment.
  • Valid Class V driver's license and possession of a personal vehicle with business insurance coverage when required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of the principles of recovery in mental illness.
  • Knowledge of psychological assessment, including semi-structured diagnostic assessment.
  • Knowledge of therapeutic, diagnostic, and consultation techniques in the designated clinical area.
  • Knowledge of treatment, assessment, and management of anxiety disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, and psychological trauma.
  • Knowledge of psychosocial rehabilitation methodology.
  • Knowledge of psychopharmacology (indications and side effects) and substance use and addictions issues and treatment.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed practice and harm reduction approaches and strengths-based care.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote Indigenous cultural safety.
  • Knowledge of adult education principles, methods, and tools.
  • Knowledge of other healthcare disciplines and their role in client care.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based psychological practice.
  • Demonstrated ability to function as a team member, leader, and facilitator.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with clients, families, team members, other groups, and community agency personnel.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaboration with others.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide effective consultation.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach and supervise.
  • Demonstrated ability to adjust to new or unexpected events, problem-solve, and deal effectively with conflict situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish workload priorities in collaboration with others.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Basic computer literacy to operate a computerized client care information system and word processing, spreadsheet, Internet, and e-mail software.
