Principal Mechanical Engineer

BBA Consultants is seeking a highly skilled Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Central Canada. As a senior member of our mechanical engineering team, you will play a key role in all phases of engineering projects from front-end studies through to field implementation with a focus on detailed engineering.
Key Responsibilities- High-Level Engineering: Perform high-level engineering on major mechanical packages such as crushing and grinding circuits, flotation circuits, leaching circuits, dewatering, heavy machinery, conveyors, and pump systems.
- Scope Development: Develop mechanical scopes of work, budgets, and proposals. Ensure that work complies with budgets, schedules, estimates, and established procedures.
- Conceptual Design: Lead mechanical scope on conceptual design studies, pre-feasibility studies, feasibility studies, and detailed engineering.
- Design Calculations: Supervise or carry out design calculations and ensure that plans meet guidelines as well as legal and regulatory requirements.
- Team Leadership: Assign and review the work of junior engineers, technicians, and drafters assigned to projects and assess technical scope.
- Client Relationships: Establish and maintain relationships with clients to define their needs.
- Technical Presentations: Present technical information, concepts, or study results.
- Document Preparation: Verify and produce files for tenders, specifications, and other technical documents.
- Site Supervision: Occasionally supervise contractors on site.
- Project Participation: Be a key team member for small to major brownfield/greenfield mining projects.
- Site Visits: Participate in site visits, inspections, condition assessments, commissioning, and testing.
- Mentorship: Provide mentorship and coaching of junior/intermediate engineers, actively sharing knowledge, and supporting the enhancement of skills within the team.
- Culture Development: Foster a culture of having fun at work while producing high-quality professional deliverables.
- Process Plant Layout: Process plant layout design oversight: Strong asset.
- Technical Expertise: Proven track record with strong technical skills as a Mechanical Engineer on mineral process plant projects.
- Industry Experience: Experience in base and precious metals: asset.
- Process Knowledge: Ability to interpret PFD's and process design criteria from process engineering, oversee plant layouts, mechanical equipment selection, technical bid evaluation and validation, and pump sizing.
- Education: University degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience: 20+ years of relevant engineering experience in the mining sector with a preference for recent 10+ years in consulting.
- Registration: Must be registered in Ontario, Canada.
- Driver's License: Valid driver's license.
- Site Availability: Available for site work (3-10 days at a time).
- Site Experience: Site experience considered a strong asset.
