As the Manager of an Animal Centre, you will be responsible for ensuring the highest standards of animal care and welfare, while also providing exceptional leadership and guidance to your team.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement effective animal care and welfare programs, ensuring compliance with BC SPCA policies and standards.
- Lead and manage a team of staff and volunteers, providing coaching, mentorship, and performance management to ensure exceptional results.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including local communities, veterinarians, and other animal welfare organizations.
- Manage and oversee the day-to-day operations of the Animal Centre, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation.
- Ensure the prompt and proper approval and transfer of animals to veterinary facilities, other locations, and/or fosters, in coordination with designated animal transfer staff and volunteers.
- Make decisions regarding euthanasia in accordance with BC SPCA policy, ensuring input from team members and where necessary from senior staff in the Operations department.
- Represent the BC SPCA in a professional and knowledgeable manner, and may be required to speak to local media.
- Post-secondary education in an applicable field, plus related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience acceptable to the employer.
- Excellent communication skills and genuine desire/ability to work with a diverse range of people in a positive manner.
- Genuine compassion for animals and sound knowledge of the Five Freedoms and related animal welfare standards.
- Demonstrated ability to organize work, meet priorities, and to work within a demanding work schedule with minimal supervision.
- Valid Class N or 5 BC Drivers' License and driver's abstract.
- Computer skills – Windows, MS Office incl. PowerPoint and Excel.
- Philosophical harmony with the BC SPCA mission, vision, and strategic directions.
