Clinical Informatics Nurse Specialist

Key Responsibilities

Conduct specialized assessments of clinical workflows and translate findings into actionable insights for digital health and information technology teams. Collaborate with various clinical departments, project groups, and external health authorities to identify technological deficiencies and clinical requirements for users of the electronic health record system. Offer expert guidance in system design, clinical content evaluation, troubleshooting, and user support. Act as the primary informatics expert, working closely with the Digital Health department and other organizational programs to lead initiatives focused on system-wide practice changes, innovative practices, and electronic health record standards. Foster a collaborative environment by integrating resources from different departments and vendor partners during clinical systems implementations. Take a leadership role in steering committees and task forces dedicated to clinical informatics and information technology projects. Spearhead the development of clinical change management policies and procedures related to electronic health records and the redesign of clinical practice processes, focusing on the automation of professional duties. Identify and assist in the evolution of role-specific functions and processes within the organization concerning clinical information systems. Oversee the system design lifecycle, including design, content creation, validation, implementation, stabilization, and evaluation of electronic health information systems, ensuring adherence to standards and protocols that support clinical engagement with electronic health records. Engage in custom report development and data analysis to facilitate informed decision-making. Provide mentorship and coaching to nursing and clinical staff, leveraging knowledge and experience in clinical informatics to enhance the integration of advancements in electronic health records into everyday practice.

Qualifications

Active registration as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) with the British Columbia College of Nurses & Midwives (BCCNM). Minimum of three years of experience in a Clinical Informatics setting, including involvement in Clinical and Systems Transformation (CST) implementation, or a comparable mix of education and experience. Ability to travel and work flexible hours as required.

Additional Skills

Maintain clinical competency and uphold practice standards while integrating evidence-based practices into service delivery. Proven experience in developing policies and procedures, as well as clinical documentation standards and business process analysis. Awareness of emerging trends in clinical practice and information systems. Strong project management skills and methodologies. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, along with strong organizational abilities. Effective problem-solving skills and the ability to build and maintain productive relationships with technical and operational staff. Capacity to work independently or collaboratively within a team environment. Commitment to understanding and adhering to legislative obligations and provincial commitments related to Indigenous rights and reconciliation.
