Role Overview:
The Laboratory Medicine and Genetics (LMG) program encompasses a vast array of services across multiple locations, including microbiology, biochemistry, hematology, and more. With over 6 million tests conducted annually, our laboratory is supported by a comprehensive Quality Management System, fostering an environment of continuous learning and professional development.
We seek a dynamic leader with a strong background in collaboration and decision-making to oversee the Microbiology Laboratory. The successful candidate will be responsible for cultivating a high-performing team of laboratory professionals, driving change initiatives, and enhancing patient safety. You will play a pivotal role in coordinating laboratory operations and contributing to the strategic direction of the program.
Key Leadership Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with an inter-professional team to develop and implement strategic and operational initiatives.
- Provide expert laboratory guidance to various programs and committees, ensuring best practices and educational support.
- Work closely with physician partners to determine the scope and quality of patient testing based on evolving needs.
- Engage in networking opportunities with peers to share insights and foster best practices.
- Oversee the development and approval of policies and procedures that align with quality standards and regulatory requirements.
- Manage recruitment, training, and ongoing professional development of laboratory staff.
- Offer mentorship and constructive feedback to team members to promote growth.
- Ensure effective management of resources, including staffing and equipment maintenance, within budgetary constraints.
- Support the procurement of necessary capital equipment.
- Collaborate with the Laboratory Quality Manager to implement quality improvement initiatives that enhance service delivery.
- Analyze performance data to identify trends and guide corrective actions.
- Ensure a safe working environment and promote safety initiatives in collaboration with relevant departments.
- Adhere to and promote the Laboratory Quality Management System.
Qualifications:
- Baccalaureate degree in a health-related field and/or current membership with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO).
- A minimum of three years of leadership experience, with at least five years in a clinical laboratory setting.
- Strong understanding of microbiology principles and practices.
- Demonstrated leadership and management capabilities, including problem-solving and project management.
- Proficient in strategic planning, budgeting, and resource allocation.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience in collaborative leadership with physician partners.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation and best practice guidelines in the laboratory setting.
- Able to navigate and lead through periods of change.
- Commitment to continuous learning and understanding of the laboratory's strategic goals.
