About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Project Engineer-in-Training to join our team at TC Energy. As a key member of our Project Engineering team, you will be responsible for leading the design effort for natural gas pipeline and facility projects, including capacity expansions and maintenance projects.

As a Project Engineer-in-Training, you will work closely with senior engineers to develop and implement project plans, conduct feasibility studies, and oversee engineering contractors. You will also be responsible for performing engineering calculations, designing projects, and coordinating with internal stakeholders to ensure project deliverables meet company objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Conduct initial project feasibility studies, cost estimating, and project risk analysis;
  2. Secure engineering contractors through selection process, contract development, and award;
  3. Oversee 3rd party engineering to ensure work is executed and managed in accordance with approved plans, contracts, schedules, and budgets;
  4. Perform engineering calculations and designs in collaboration with internal Drafting and Design team;
  5. Plan and coordinate engagement of internal stakeholders to provide input to and review of engineering deliverables;
  6. Facilitate project design reviews with Project Stakeholders during FEED and detailed engineering;
  7. Review engineering contractor invoices and change order requests;
  8. Schedule and participate in meetings to discuss Process Hazard Analysis (PHA);
  9. Provide procurement support, including engineering and material procurement planning, material requisition package review and approval, technical and commercial bid tab review and approval, and supplier qualification;
  10. Work with project controls to update engineering and material monthly forecasts;
  11. Lead the resolution of technical/engineering issues during detailed engineering, construction, and commissioning, including information requests and needs;
  12. Track key engineering deliverables and adjust engineering plans and/or resources to meet the needs of customers; responsible for reporting status to project management and making corrective actions as needed;
  13. Identify changes and support management of change process to ensure integrity is maintained throughout the design development process;
  14. Identify and document opportunities for improvement as lessons learned throughout the design development process;
  15. Work collaboratively with other project groups to share and implement best practices;
Requirements
  1. Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited institution with a mechanical, civil, or electrical specialty;
  2. Excellent computer skills (solid understanding of Microsoft Office applications) and ability to learn new applications;
  3. Knowledge on project management concepts, tools, and processes;
  4. Familiarity with natural gas pipelines;
  5. Ability to apply engineering principles, codes, and standards to identify issues, recommend improvements, and implement solutions;
  6. Proven analytical and critical thinking skills with a proactive approach to problem identification and resolution;
  7. Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills with the ability to build and maintain effective business relationships to reach company objectives;
  8. Demonstrated ability to succeed in a changing environment with sound decision making, judgment, and independent action is required in line with regulation, company policies and procedures, company values, and business objectives and targets;
  9. Self-motivated and results-driven with excellent time management skills;
  10. Strong leadership skills with an aptitude for team building;
  11. Willingness to travel or relocate for work assignments as required.
