Your Role:
In this position, you will report directly to the AVP of Programs and will be responsible for analyzing and underwriting both new and renewal business. You will operate under limited supervision, applying the Zurich Way of Underwriting Framework to complex assignments while ensuring exceptional service delivery to our clients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify and pursue opportunities for renewal and new accounts.
- Assess Programs/MGA to align with the organization's strategic goals while ensuring sound business practices.
- Collaborate with various departments to facilitate the onboarding of new Programs/MGA, including Actuarial, Finance, Technical Underwriting, Operations, Claims, Legal, and Compliance.
- Develop business cases as necessary.
- Possess a fundamental understanding of Facultative reinsurance and/or Managing General Agent placements.
- Conduct agent/broker/customer visits with a clear and strategic purpose.
- Negotiate terms and conditions effectively to finalize agreements.
- Engage proactively in the target account process, managing a list of qualified opportunities well in advance of effective dates.
- Maintain accurate records of broker/client interactions and account statuses in required systems.
- Act as the primary contact for assigned Programs/MGA.
- Build and nurture strong networks with brokers and clients within the relevant industries.
- Utilize underwriting tools to accurately calculate target pricing.
- Analyze risks and measure exposure effectively.
- Support the training and development of team members.
- Provide expert guidance on coverage issues related to claims programs and guidelines.
- Contribute to the creation of underwriting manuals, programs, and guidelines.
- Lead marketing presentations for new and existing Programs/MGA.
- Ensure successful project completion through ongoing communication with business unit sponsors during major project implementations.
- Identify and recommend solutions for unique challenges faced by business units and customers.
Qualifications:
Required:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent with a minimum of 5 years of experience in Underwriting or Market Facing roles.
- Alternatively, a High School Diploma or Equivalent with 10 years of experience in Claims or Underwriting Support.
- Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and at least 3 years of experience in Underwriting or Market Facing roles.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Experience working under time constraints for quotes on new and renewal business.
- Ability to thrive in a team-oriented environment.
Preferred:
- Bachelor's Degree.
- 5 years of commercial underwriting experience, particularly in Programs.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint.
- Experience in multi-line underwriting, including Property, Crime, CGL, and Umbrella (experience in Construction & Auto is advantageous).
- French language skills are beneficial for candidates in Ontario and essential for those in Quebec.
- Fluency in both spoken and written English is necessary for effective communication with stakeholders.
