Position Overview:

The Facilities Maintenance Lead will oversee the management of millwrights and electricians within a unionized manufacturing setting. This role is pivotal in ensuring the safety of all employees while adhering to the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise maintenance personnel to ensure compliance with safety regulations and operational standards.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership and communication skills to effectively manage technical and organizational tasks.
  • Optimize the performance of plant machinery and services, focusing on cost efficiency, safety, and product excellence.
  • Collaborate with various departments to address production needs and equipment functionality, which may involve working across different shifts.
  • Schedule and manage work orders using Maximo, while assessing training requirements and employee performance.
  • Foster a skilled and effective maintenance team through development and leadership.
  • Maintain positive relations within the union and among employees.
  • Continuously enhance the preventive maintenance strategy to minimize downtime and control maintenance expenses.
  • Direct plant projects, coordinating efforts with both internal staff and external contractors.
  • Address employee-related issues in accordance with collective agreements.
  • Support the execution of capital projects as needed.
  • Plan and execute preventive maintenance tasks on equipment as required.
  • Adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Food Safety, and Health & Safety standards.

Qualifications:

  • Trade certification as a Licensed Millwright or Licensed Electrician is preferred.
  • Post-secondary education or equivalent experience is advantageous.
  • A minimum of 3 years in a supervisory maintenance role within a unionized, highly automated, fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in the food, beverage, or packaged goods sectors is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with PLC for troubleshooting and programming is beneficial.
  • Strong understanding of OHSA regulations.
  • Proven history of promoting safety and compliance in the workplace.
  • Ability to effectively train and develop direct reports.
  • Extensive knowledge in troubleshooting, adjusting, and repairing equipment.
  • Experience with work orders and preventive maintenance practices.
  • Knowledge of food processing standards, CFIA, HACCP, Continuous Improvement Processes, and Six Sigma is a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with project management capabilities.
  • Ability to cultivate a results-oriented team environment.
  • Experience managing operational budgets.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications.
  • Willingness to work varying shifts, including weekends and holidays.
