As a key member of the Providence Health Care team, the Ophthalmic Technician Specialist plays a vital role in performing complex diagnostic ophthalmic procedures and assessments. This position requires strong communication and organizational skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities- Reviews requisitions and verifies the appropriateness of visual field tests and photographs in accordance with physician's diagnosis and established procedures.
- Performs tests and procedures such as Goldmann field tests, automated perimetry, tonometry, and ocular motility assessments.
- Analyzes and records relevant data for interpretation by physician.
- Evaluates and selects images for diagnostic purposes and processes them into a computerized database.
- Receives patients, records relevant information, and explains procedures for diagnostic ophthalmic tests and assessment procedures.
- Administers eye drops as required and monitors pupil dilation and patient status.
- Maintains equipment performance, identifies malfunctions, and takes corrective action.
- Communicates issues and unusual occurrences to Manager and/or physicians as appropriate.
- Graduation from a recognized program in ophthalmic technology plus two (2) years' recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to deal with others effectively.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
- Ability to organize work and operate related equipment.
As per the current Public Health Orders, all employees working for Providence Health Care must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Proof of vaccination status will be required.
