Job Title: Apprentice Mechanic (Level 1-4)

We operate a fleet of over 43,000 buses, serving 460 locations across the US and Canada. Our team of skilled mechanics is dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of safety and reliability.

Job Summary

As an Apprentice Mechanic, you'll assist our experienced technicians with vehicle maintenance and repairs. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Performing vehicle maintenance and repairs under direct supervision
  • Assisting with preventative maintenance, safety inspections, and annual maintenance inspections
  • Diagnosing and repairing mechanical issues, including brakes, suspensions, drivetrains, transmission clutches, and other repairs
  • Maintaining accurate records of maintenance work completed, including parts and supplies used
  • Notifying your supervisor of potentially dangerous equipment and corrective action taken
  • Moving vehicles safely between job and work area
  • Assisting with road calls and emergency services as necessary
  • Adhering to First Student and First Transit's standards, policies, and procedures
Qualifications:
  • Valid driver's license required
  • Previous gas or diesel vehicle repair experience; school bus experience is an asset
  • Must have a suitable mechanics tool set
  • Good computer skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to work assigned shift
