Job Summary

Lakeridge Health is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Laboratory Technologist to join our team in the Clinical Laboratory. As a Laboratory Technologist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of laboratory test results, which are essential for patient diagnosis and treatment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine and specialized test procedures in Chemistry, Hematology, and Blood Bank, adhering to established protocols and quality control measures.
  • Organize workflow to maintain performance standards of quantity and quality, ensuring timely and accurate test results.
  • Observe, troubleshoot, and report problems with methods, equipment, and other laboratory-related issues to supervisors.
  • Ensure the cleanliness of equipment and immediate work area, maintaining a safe and healthy environment for patients and staff.
  • Follow established safety and infection control procedures, adhering to regulatory requirements and hospital policies.
  • Participate in student/staff training programs, as required, to enhance knowledge and skills.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors, contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the laboratory.
Requirements
  • Certification with the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Sciences (CSMLS).
  • Current registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO).
  • Current theoretical and technical knowledge in Hematology, Blood Transfusion, and Biochemistry.
  • Must have in-depth knowledge of techniques, principles, and instruments and their interrelationships.
  • Must have working and technical knowledge of the electronic and/or mechanical equipment necessary to perform routine and specialized testing.
  • Proven problem-solving skills, with the ability to recognize problems, identify the cause, create alternatives, and determine solutions.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and supervisors.
  • Able to exercise independent judgment, deductive reasoning, and attention to detail.
  • Able to work effectively under pressure in emergency situations, maintaining composure and prioritizing tasks.
  • Proven organizational skills, with the ability to assess requests and prioritize them to ensure good and prompt patient care.
  • Physically capable of performing bending, lifting, turning frequently throughout the shift to accomplish tasks.
  • Recent experience in a Core Laboratory, preferred.
  • Must have a satisfactory performance record.
