Job Overview

The Ground Support Equipment (GSE) Specialist is responsible for ensuring that all ground service and aircraft support machinery is maintained and serviced in accordance with company standards, operational protocols, and manufacturer specifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine and preventive maintenance, including repairs and servicing of equipment.
  • Prepare, paint, or clean both the interior and exterior surfaces of ground support machinery.
  • Engage in minor fabrication tasks, such as constructing baggage carts and aircraft tow bars.
  • Diagnose, repair, install, and maintain various electrical systems and components following relevant codes and maintenance schedules.
  • Troubleshoot, install, and repair hydraulic systems, hoses, and associated equipment.
  • Participate in all aspects of vehicle maintenance for the fleet at the designated base.
  • Interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform necessary maintenance and services.
  • Utilize a variety of hand and power tools, electrical meters, and material handling equipment in the execution of duties.
  • Identify faulty operations and defective materials, reporting any irregularities to the appropriate supervisory personnel.
  • Adhere to safety regulations and maintain a clean and organized workspace.
  • Update and manage records in the company’s maintenance management systems and databases.
  • Ensure adequate supplies and tools are available for the maintenance department.
  • Collaborate with staff and management to report or receive updates on equipment issues.
  • Complete all necessary documentation and reports related to maintenance activities.
  • Maintain an inventory of new equipment, manuals, and warranties.
  • Uphold the company's commitment to customer service for both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Perform any other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  • 2-4 years of relevant maintenance experience or completion of a journeyman certification in a related field.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to obtain necessary operational licenses.
  • Capability to meet security requirements for restricted area access.
  • Welding skills are advantageous.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
  • Strong multitasking and prioritization abilities.
  • Organizational skills to manage maintenance schedules and documentation effectively.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Strong time management and project management skills.
  • High level of independent judgment and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure.
  • Attention to detail is critical.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and email communication.
  • First Aid certifications are considered beneficial.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all matters.
  • Professional and diplomatic interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Oji-Cree or Ojibway is a plus.
  • Previous experience in the airline industry is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with First Nations Organizations is a benefit.

Working Conditions

  • Travel to various locations may be required.
  • Personal protective equipment, such as steel-toed boots and safety glasses, is mandatory.

  • Work may be performed indoors and outdoors.
  • Basic hand tools are necessary for the role.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 70 lbs.
  • Manual dexterity is required for operating computers and related equipment.
