Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Student Assistant, Biology Lab. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will assist Biology Lab staff in maintaining a clean and organized workspace, preparing materials, and ensuring the smooth operation of our lab.

Responsibilities

• Assist with lab setup and cleanup, ensuring a safe and efficient working environment
• Provide animal care, including feeding, cleaning, and general maintenance of our lab animals
• Participate in Green House work, including watering, pruning, and pest management
• Prepare solutions and chemicals for weekly labs under supervision
• Build weekly kits for labs and assist with teaching fellow students about animal care
• Work in microbiology labs, preparing media, sterilizing equipment, and working with bacteria under supervision

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this role, you must meet one of the following criteria:
1. Be enrolled in, and maintain, a minimum of one or more (3 credit) courses at Douglas College throughout the work term
2. Have been enrolled in, and maintained, a minimum of one or more (3 credit) courses at Douglas College in the term immediately preceding the work term and have indicated an intention to enroll at the college in the term immediately following the work term
3. Be enrolled in, and maintain a minimum of two or more (3 credit) courses at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C. throughout the work term
4. Have been enrolled in, and maintained, a minimum of two or more (3 credit) courses at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C. in the term immediately preceding the work term and have indicated an intention to enroll at the institution in the term immediately following the work term

International Student Eligibility

International students must meet one of the following criteria to be eligible for this role:
1. Be enrolled in full-time studies at Douglas College throughout the academic year
2. Be an international student at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C. with a valid Study Permit that has the notation – "May accept employment on or off campus if meeting eligibility criteria as per R186 (F), (V) or (W). Must cease working if no longer meeting these criteria." Proof of enrollment in full-time studies from the other post-secondary institution is required.

Requirements

An original copy of a Social Insurance Number (SIN) and an original Study Permit are required by law before commencing work at Douglas College.
