About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled Clinical Dietitian to join our team at Nova Scotia Health and IWK Health. As a key member of our interdisciplinary health professional team, you will be responsible for directing and providing nutrition care and education to patients.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in nutrition and dietetics, with a focus on medical nutrition therapy. They will be responsible for initiating a cost-effective care process, developing patient-centered care plans, and implementing and evaluating these plans to optimize clinical and fiscal outcomes.

In the ambulatory setting, the Clinical Dietitian will provide patients with effective strategies to self-manage disease, reducing hospital admission rates. By ensuring optimal nutrition status for patients requiring hospitalization, the Clinical Dietitian will enhance medical management, leading to improved clinical outcomes such as decreased infection rates, length of stay, and readmission rates.

As a member of our primary health care (PHC) Diabetes Centre team, the Clinical Dietitian will provide a range of PHC services, using critical thinking and clinical judgment to coordinate, facilitate, and improve the management of patients with Diabetes and co-occurring chronic conditions within an integrated primary health care model.

About You

We are looking for a candidate with a strong educational background in nutrition and dietetics, with a focus on medical nutrition therapy. The ideal candidate will have:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition or Dietetics
  • Completion of an approved Dietetic internship
  • Licensure with the Nova Scotia College of Dietitians and Nutritionists
  • Designation as a Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) or willingness to obtain within 2 years
  • 1 year of related experience, with consideration given to candidates with less experience
  • Eligibility for membership with the Dietitians of Canada
  • Strong communication, conflict resolution, collaboration, and teamwork skills
  • Leadership, planning, organization, and time management skills
  • Commitment to promoting a culture that supports safety, ethical practices, and organizational health, and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
Hours and Compensation

The successful candidate will work as a permanent, full-time employee, with a 75-hour bi-weekly schedule. Shifts will include days, evenings, and weekends, with travel between sites required. The hourly rate is $43.43.
