About the Role

The Occupational Therapist plays a crucial role within the Mental Health Services framework, reporting to the Mental Health Services Manager and collaborating with the Mental Health Management team. This position is dedicated to employing evidence-based and recovery-oriented methodologies to deliver a comprehensive array of services to clients facing mental health and wellness challenges.

Utilizing a psycho-social rehabilitation approach, the Occupational Therapist is tasked with the assessment, development of care plans, execution, and evaluation of individualized client needs, aimed at enhancing their daily functioning and overall quality of life.

Collaboration is key, as the Occupational Therapist will work alongside a multidisciplinary Mental Health Care Team and engage with community partners and organizations, ensuring a holistic, client- and family-centered strategy. Additionally, this role involves initiating and facilitating mental health programs that focus on health promotion, disease prevention, early detection, intervention, and community needs assessments.

The Occupational Therapist is also responsible for adhering to the regulations, standards, and policies set forth by the College of Occupational Therapists of Nova Scotia (COTNS), as well as the guidelines established by the Department of Health and Wellness - Province of Nova Scotia and the Nova Scotia Health Authority (NSHA).

Candidate Profile

We invite applications from individuals who possess the following qualifications:

  • Completion of a Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy
  • Registration or eligibility for registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of Nova Scotia (COTNS)
  • Experience with clients experiencing mental health issues or concurrent substance use disorders is advantageous
  • Certification in Psycho-Social Rehabilitation in Practice or a commitment to obtain it within the first year of employment
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, CPR, First Aid, and WHMIS certifications or a willingness to acquire them
  • Demonstrated adaptability in applying professional skills across various service delivery models and environments
  • Proficiency in a client-centered care approach
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Competence in using word processing software, email, spreadsheets, and internet applications
  • A valid driver’s license
  • Capacity to work autonomously and take responsibility for decisions and actions
  • Proficiency in additional languages is a plus, with French being preferred
  • Successful candidates must provide a criminal record check (including Vulnerable Sector Search) prior to employment and cover any associated costs.

Work Schedule
  • Permanent Full-time position; 75.00 hours bi-weekly.
Salary and Benefits

The hourly wage for this position is $42.68.
