Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Registered Practical Nurse to join our Paediatric Inpatient Unit team at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre. As a key member of our multidisciplinary healthcare team, you will provide high-quality nursing care to patients with predictable outcomes, working collaboratively with colleagues to achieve exceptional patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide quality nursing care to patients with predictable outcomes, adhering to the Professional Standards of the College of Nurses of Ontario and the Philosophy of patient and family-centered care.
  • Collaborate with Registered Nurses and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans, ensuring seamless transitions and optimal patient outcomes.
  • Utilize the Nursing Process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care, incorporating ongoing knowledge and best practices to deliver exceptional care.
  • Identify and respond to abnormal or unexpected patient responses, taking prompt and appropriate action to ensure patient safety and well-being.
  • Manage multiple nursing interventions simultaneously, prioritizing tasks and delegating responsibilities as needed to ensure efficient and effective care delivery.
  • Develop and maintain strong interprofessional relationships with colleagues, fostering open communication and collaboration to achieve shared goals and objectives.
Requirements
  • Current unrestricted registration as a Registered Practical Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario, or the ability to become licensed with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Current certification in Basic Life Support (BCLS).
  • Recent experience in Paediatric Nursing, with a focus on caring for complex patient populations, including those with technology dependence, mental health and/or behavioral diagnoses, and developmental challenges.
  • Ability to use the Nursing Process and basic and ongoing knowledge to develop individualized care plans and deliver exceptional patient care.
  • Strong communication and interprofessional skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues to achieve shared goals and objectives.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certification or recent continuing education in Paediatric Nursing, lactation support/education, Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), or Emergency Nurses Paediatric Course (ENPC).
