As an Oncology Radiation Specialist, you will deliver high-quality radiation therapy services while ensuring patient-centered care in line with established protocols and professional standards. Your role encompasses treatment planning, execution, and ongoing patient support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver compassionate patient care by conducting thorough assessments, reviewing medical histories, and educating patients and their families about treatment processes and potential side effects.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure comprehensive patient management.
  • Execute treatment planning by:
    • Analyzing and implementing radiation treatment orders for both brachytherapy and external beam therapy, including the development of computerized treatment plans and accurate dose calculations.
    • Creating and utilizing immobilization and beam shaping devices to optimize treatment delivery.
    • Employing simulation technology to generate and confirm treatment plans.
    • Accurately positioning patients to achieve optimal dose distribution and reproducibility of treatment plans.
    • Conducting both manual and computerized calculations for radiation treatment techniques.
    • Assisting patients in understanding their treatment plans and evaluating their comprehension of the associated side effects.
    • Informing patients and families about available services at PHSA and within the community.
    • Maintain detailed patient records, documenting relevant medical histories, assessments, and educational interactions.
    • Perform routine quality assurance checks on equipment to ensure safety and efficacy, documenting any malfunctions and taking necessary corrective actions.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A degree in Radiation Therapy or an equivalent certification, along with certification from the Canadian Association for Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT).
  • Recent experience in a Radiation Therapy training program or active practice as a Radiation Therapist within the last five years.
