Job Summary

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining, upgrading, troubleshooting, and repairing all HVAC equipment within the Department of National Defense facilities to achieve optimum life span of equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform monthly preventative maintenance as directed by the supervisor, including site inspections and documentation.
  • Respond to emergency trouble calls of a mechanical nature and support other staff in their tasks.
  • Support mechanical maintenance duties, including minor repairs, changing belts, replacing filters, and coordinating minor repairs.
  • Utilize a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to document work performed on building assets and services to tenants.
  • Order and maintain supply inventory.
  • Oversee repair and maintenance tasks performed by sub-trades.
  • Perform various cleaning tasks, as agreed upon and as time permits.
  • Ensure maximum operation of equipment, inspect/operate/maintain, and minor repairs for mechanical/electrical systems and equipment (HVAC equipment, pumps, generators, life safety system, etc.).
  • Ensure all equipment are operated in a safe and efficient manner and in compliance with all applicable government codes and regulations.

Education Requirements

  • Knowledge and understanding of HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical systems, and Building Automation Systems (BAS).
  • Building Environment System certificate or a trade license (BES 1 and/or 2) is considered an asset.

Work Experience Requirements

  • 3-5 years' facilities maintenance and operations experience.
  • Strong technical capabilities in building systems and equipment.

  • Always maintain a professional demeanor with fellow employees and customers.
  • Maintain clear and courteous phone etiquette.

  • Security clearance requirements.
  • Maintain a valid G license with a clean driver's abstract.
  • Must be able to work in confined spaces and/or working at heights.
  • Bending and lifting (under 30kg) required.
