Job Summary

The Porter/Mail Clerk, under the direction of nursing care personnel, is responsible for transporting patients between hospital units and other treatment areas within the PHSA hospitals and host hospitals. This role also involves assisting in lifting and transferring patients, transporting materials, and performing mailroom duties.

Key Responsibilities

  • Transport patients between hospital units and other treatment areas.
  • Assist in lifting and transferring patients from stretchers and wheelchairs.
  • Transport patient care equipment, reports, mail, and laboratory specimens as required.
  • Clean and maintain transporting equipment.
  • Perform mailroom duties, including sorting internal and outgoing mail, operating postal machines, and folding and inserting mail.
  • Start the computer-automated printing process for Canada Post and Meditran hard copy mail.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Completion of Grade 10 plus graduation from a recognized Nursing Assistant Program or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
