Mental Health Nurse

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RN/RPN) to join our Mental Health and Substance Use Services team at Fraser Health. As a key member of our interprofessional care team, you will provide person-centered and recovery-oriented care to individuals with mental illness and concurrent disorders.
Key Responsibilities- Coordinate care for clients by collaborating with the interprofessional care team, performing intake functions, conducting mental health assessments, and developing comprehensive treatment plans.
- Provide direct nursing care to clients, including reviewing client/family history, conducting physical/psychosocial assessments, and implementing treatment modalities such as ADLs, wound care, and medication administration.
- Work from a strengths-based model, using motivational interviewing and engagement techniques to develop and implement individualized care plans.
- Establish and maintain therapeutic relationships with clients and their informal support network, engaging stakeholders in treatment planning and evaluation.
- Teach clients and their families about management and treatment of specific psychiatric conditions, concurrent substance use issues, and their symptoms.
- Provide treatment services, including crisis intervention, individual counseling, and education, according to various theoretical models.
- Initiate and participate in case conferences/meetings with clients, family, service providers, and members of the interprofessional team to ensure a coordinated approach to treatment.
- Graduation from an approved School of Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing.
- Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse and/or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
- One year of recent, related experience providing treatment services to individuals with mental health and/or concurrent disorders in a community or acute setting.
- May require completion of a substance use certificate program.
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License and access to a personal vehicle with appropriate insurance coverage.
