Position Overview:

The Junior Product Owner plays a crucial role in guiding a development team (pod) to deliver value to the organization through customer-centric product increments. This includes collaborating with other Product Owners and senior management to adhere to a product vision, developing and managing a prioritized product backlog, addressing delivery obstacles, and consistently evaluating customer feedback. The Junior Product Owner should always strive to maximize value, consider continuous improvements in the product or delivery process, foster a positive work environment, and ensure that work aligns with Agile principles of transparency, collaboration, and engagement.

CUSTOMER FOCUS

  • Collaborate with management to support the realization of a product vision.
  • In alignment with the product vision, develop and maintain a product backlog, continually re-prioritizing user stories to deliver maximum customer or end-user value.
  • Regularly align with senior management on the product delivery roadmap, defined Minimum Marketable Features, and release schedules.
  • Analyze performance metrics; advocate for strategies to enhance the customer or end-user product experience.
  • Engage in scrum or Kanban ceremonies (e.g., stand-ups, retrospectives), propose new ideas for enhancing product value or delivery efficiency, and share insights with leadership as appropriate.
  • Proactively connect with established business process partners to ensure customers or end users are prepared for application changes and establish ongoing processes.
  • Create a value-driven product backlog and iterate continuously, ensuring user stories are well-defined and prioritized.
  • Oversee user story design, development, and completion; accept or reject user stories based on the agreed Definition of Done and Acceptance Criteria.
  • Manage delivery initiatives and supervise the development team (pod) backlogs.
  • Proactively identify issues that hinder the efficient delivery of customer-focused increments.
  • Responsible for managing defects and prioritization.

SHAREHOLDER RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Adhere to enterprise frameworks or methodologies relevant to activities within the business area.
  • Ensure ongoing strategic alignment with senior management, providing feedback as necessary.
  • Incorporate feedback from the development team and stakeholders in backlog management, facilitating discussions among multiple stakeholders with competing priorities.
  • Understand the internal business and technical landscape, proactively defining, aligning, or integrating with relevant stakeholders and shared services control groups.
  • Lead the submission and discussion during the Quarterly Business Review regarding their product.
  • Effectively manage business stakeholders to gather inputs required for product development in a timely manner.
  • Monitor the regulatory landscape and collaborate with senior management to adapt product strategy as necessary.
  • Actively coordinate and engage in risk, quality, and business testing management.
  • Empowered to make decisions regarding product delivery, escalating to senior management when necessary.
  • Communicate effectively with business, technology, and senior management regarding product changes and backlog priorities.
  • Serve as the primary point of escalation for the development team, providing guidance and decision-making as needed.
  • Collaborate with peers to reinforce Agile methodologies.
  • Compile performance metrics and share insights with relevant stakeholders.
  • Define the Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) in partnership with various stakeholders across the organization.
  • Safeguard the organization's interests by identifying and managing risks, escalating non-standard, high-risk activities as necessary.
  • Stay informed about emerging issues, trends, and evolving regulatory requirements, assessing potential impacts.
  • Maintain a culture of risk management and control, supported by effective processes aligned with risk appetite.

  • Contribute to the team's skill development through mentorship, sharing knowledge and experiences, and leveraging best practices.
  • Lead, motivate, and cultivate relationships with internal and external business partners/stakeholders to foster productive working relationships.
  • Support a fair, positive, and equitable environment that embraces a diverse workforce.
  • Act as a brand ambassador for your business area/function and the bank, both internally and externally.

EXPERTISE AND EDUCATION

  • Undergraduate degree and/or product certification.
  • 7+ years of relevant experience.
  • 3+ years of experience as a Product Owner or in Agile-related delivery.
  • Certification as a Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) and project management experience are considered assets.
  • Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) certifications or experience in scaled agile delivery are considered assets.
