Job Summary

The Manitoba Government is seeking highly motivated Maintenance Assistants to work within the Asset Management Division of Consumer Protection and Government Services. This role is responsible for performing a variety of tasks relating to the operation and maintenance of government facilities, including office buildings, housing units, and correctional centers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance activities inside and outside of buildings, including maintaining heating and cooling equipment.
  • Assist tradespersons and grounds keepers as needed.
  • Perform daily checks, inspections, and preventative maintenance on life safety systems.
  • Help maintain client relations and provide excellent customer service.

Requirements

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Must possess and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check. Satisfactory Security Check and Child Abuse Registry may be required.
  • Must possess a valid Class 5 Driver's License and be able to work in other locations within the Division as needed.
  • Must be physically capable of performing the duties of the position, including sitting, lifting, reaching, working at heights, and in confined spaces.
  • Must be able to work overtime, including evenings and weekends.

Qualifications

  • Essential: Demonstrated experience with general building, grounds, and equipment maintenance, including performing preventative and corrective maintenance.
  • Essential: Knowledge of workplace health and safety policies and legislation.
  • Essential: Ability to analyze and problem-solve.
  • Essential: Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain positive working relationships.
  • Essential: Verbal communication skills.
  • Essential: Written communication skills.
  • Desired: Trade designation (5th class Power Engineer, partial or full trades certificate, BOMI Certificate).
