Visual South Asia Course Assistant

The University of Toronto is seeking a qualified individual to serve as a Sessional Instructional Assistant for the course FAH364H1S, focusing on the visual culture of South Asia. This role involves engaging with students and supporting their learning experience in a dynamic academic environment.

Course Details:

Course Title: Visual South Asia

Course Focus: This course provides a comprehensive examination of the visual culture of South Asia, spanning from ancient civilizations to contemporary practices. Emphasis will be placed on visual literacy, stylistic developments, and critical analysis of various visual forms.

Estimated Enrollment: Approximately 80 students

Position Availability: 1 position

Appointment Size: 100 hours

Sessional Dates: January to April

Compensation: $52.26 per hour plus vacation pay

Qualifications Required:

  • A solid foundation in Art History, with relevant historical and geographical knowledge.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree (MA or PhD) in Art History.
  • Experience in evaluating undergraduate student performance.
  • Demonstrated interest in innovative teaching methodologies and student engagement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Attend and participate in weekly lectures.
  • Assist in grading, recording, and managing student assessments.
  • Supervise examinations and assessments.
  • Hold regular office hours for student consultations.

This position is governed by the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 Collective Agreement. It is important to note that hiring preferences may be given to individuals who have achieved the rank of Sessional Lecturer II or III.
