Position Overview

The City of Ottawa is seeking qualified individuals for the role of Intermediate Sports Specialist. This position falls under the Recreation, Cultural and Facility Services department, which is dedicated to fostering a healthy and inclusive community.

Employment Details

  • Type: Multiple Part-time Permanent positions
  • Hours: Up to 24 hours/week
  • Shifts: Days, Evenings, Weekends

Compensation

The hourly wage for this role is $33.937 (2024 rates of pay).

Key Responsibilities

As an Intermediate Sports Specialist, you will be responsible for:

  • Planning and executing program content for various sports initiatives.
  • Providing instruction, coaching, and coordination for intermediate-level sports programs.
  • Ensuring a safe and engaging environment for participants.

Qualifications

Applicants should possess:

  • Completion of Grade 11.
  • Background in Recreation or a related field is advantageous.
  • A minimum of 1 year of relevant experience in a sports specialty area.
  • Experience in supervising staff and coordinating programs.

Certifications

Required certifications include:

  • Current Standard First Aid, CPR, and/or AED certificates.
  • AODA Customer Service/IASR Training.
  • Relevant recreation/sports program certification.

Knowledge and Skills

Successful candidates will demonstrate:

  • Familiarity with City of Ottawa policies and procedures.
  • Awareness of safety and security protocols for programs.
  • Strong interpersonal communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Flexibility, creativity, enthusiasm, and reliability.

Additional Information

  • Language Requirements: Various language competencies may be required, including English and French.
  • Police Record Check: A Vulnerable Sector Check will be necessary for the successful candidate.
