Nursing Practice Instructor for BSN Program

We are seeking qualified candidates to provide instruction in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program at North Island College, in collaboration with Vancouver Island University.
This sessional teaching role, comprising up to 20% of full-time hours, focuses on delivering the practice course NUR 414: Nursing Practice VIII – Transitioning to BSN Graduate to a group of BSN students through in-person teaching methods. Practicum placements will occur in diverse healthcare environments and may necessitate travel; therefore, candidates must possess reliable transportation.Important Note: Applicants should have current clinical experience and expertise in areas such as Community Health, Adult Medicine, Adult Surgery, Mental Health, Geriatrics, and/or Women & Children’s Health.
The selected candidate will employ innovative strategies for the preparation and execution of practice activities, proactively address student concerns, and demonstrate effective conflict resolution skills.
Faculty members at North Island College are tasked with fulfilling the institution's vision, goals, and objectives in relation to education and learning.
To effectively carry out their teaching responsibilities, faculty members utilize organizational abilities, interpersonal skills, and their expertise in subject matter, teaching methodologies, and curriculum design.
Additionally, they are expected to serve as exemplary role models for both students and colleagues.Key Responsibilities:
1. Instructional Duties:
- Develop and prepare educational materials for instructional settings;
- Utilize a variety of teaching methods and resources to meet diverse learning needs;
- Deliver instruction in assigned subject areas, ensuring all required content is included;
- Guide student learning in a supportive and nurturing environment;
- Maintain regular availability for students during scheduled office and classroom hours to discuss their progress;
- Clearly articulate learning outcomes and assessment methods for programs and courses;
- Design and conduct student evaluations, keeping learners informed of their progress;
- Submit grades promptly in accordance with institutional policies;
- Maintain accurate records of student enrollment and performance, submitting necessary documentation at the end of employment.
- Adhere to College educational policies and contribute to the development of strategic plans;
- Communicate with the Department Chair regarding inventory needs for courses;
- Provide input on enrollment management strategies;
- Report health and safety concerns to the appropriate authorities;
- Demonstrate proficiency in relevant computer applications;
- Engage in continuous professional development as required in the discipline;
- Participate actively in College committees and community activities;
- Attend departmental meetings and contribute to departmental initiatives;
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the College when workload permits.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree required, with at least one degree in Nursing;
- Doctorate preferred;
- Experience in adult education, preferably at the postsecondary level;
- Current registration with BCCNM, including a clear Criminal Record check;
- Current CPR certification (HCP level).
Skills and Abilities:
- A minimum of two years of full-time experience in one or more of the following areas: Community Health, Adult Medicine, Adult Surgery, Mental Health, Geriatrics, and/or Women & Children’s Health;
- Experience or interest in Indigenous health and/or global health is advantageous;
- Ability to employ various creative and engaging teaching methods in a distributed learning environment;
- Demonstrated teamwork skills and the ability to foster collaborative relationships;
- Strong organizational and time management skills;
- Excellent verbal, interpersonal, and written communication abilities;
- Commitment to evidence-informed practice and scholarly activities;
- Familiarity with online learning management systems, such as D2L Brightspace;
- Proficiency in computer applications, including MS Office Suite;
- A valid BC driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle are required.
