Job Summary

We are seeking a highly experienced General Foreman to join our team at Volker Stevin Contracting Ltd. in Calgary, AB. As a key member of our construction team, you will be responsible for overseeing multi-disciplinary projects, leveraging your extensive experience in areas such as structural concrete and steel, foundations, deep installations, plumbing and electrical, building and wall footings, lift station construction, bridge construction, and carpentry to ensure effective project execution.

Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in preconstruction services on all negotiated projects, including development of site logistics, project schedule and phasing, design and constructability review, and budget development.
  • Be responsible for quality control, sub-trade coordination, safety, and monitoring and maintaining the overall project schedule & field cost control.
  • Be a technical and hands-on expert in the areas of constructing wood or metal frameworks or structures and anchoring these structures in place, as required.
  • Determine the method of construction, materials quantities, equipment, work schedule and documentation of hours worked.
  • Coordinate assigned work scope with different crafts, company departments and subcontractors.
  • Assist with preparation and facilitation of project meetings.
  • Assist project managers with resolution of outstanding quality & construction items.
  • Liaise with project managers, consulting designers, and internal and external team members.
  • Work in conjunction with the project manager and manage the project budget specifically as pertains to production of self-performed work.
  • Perform contract scope as per construction contract and specifications on site.
  • Be accountable for reviewing, approving, and tracking all daily construction operations.
  • Manage overall site Health and Safety as the on-site company representative; including health and safety inspections & incident reporting.
  • Leading health and safety orientation and daily toolbox meetings.
  • Other duties as required.
Requirements
  • 8-10+ years of experience in civil construction.
  • General carpentry knowledge and exposure are required.
  • Carpentry or any other applicable certified Alberta journeyperson ticket is considered an asset.
  • Direct experience with structural concrete & steel, earthworks, roadworks, foundations, and deep installations.
  • Ability to manage and execute projects ranging from $1-10M.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and coach small to medium sized teams.
  • Know and be familiar with the impact of changes on project cost and schedule.
  • Demonstrate proactive and forward thinking, anticipating actions and occurrences 3 months or more when planning work.
  • Knowledge of construction engineering and design.
  • Knowledge of standard construction software (InEight and Microsoft Dynamics 365) and management processes.
  • Must be physically able to repetitively lift and carry at least 40 LBS on a regular basis.
  • Must have a clean driver's abstract (as per Company Policy).
