Position Overview:

Reporting to the Program Director of Undergraduate Programs and the Dean, the Academic Coordinator will focus on two primary responsibilities:

Community Engagement: Actively participate in the life of Athabasca University and its surrounding community.

Teaching and Learning: The faculty member will be tasked with developing, instructing, and assessing undergraduate courses within the BN Program, including a clinical teaching component comprising a four-week medical-surgical rotation each term.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to enhancing their skills, learning, and contributing to both teaching and service. They will be innovative and reflective educators with current clinical teaching experience in medical/surgical nursing. Familiarity with online learning environments is advantageous. Proven ability to lead and collaborate effectively within larger teams is essential. A willingness to develop skills beyond existing strengths is expected and encouraged.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Nursing (MN or MScN) from an accredited institution; a PhD in Nursing is preferred.
  • Active registration with CRNA as a Registered Nurse in Alberta.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of clinical nursing experience is required.
  • Availability to teach one full-time (Monday to Friday) clinical rotation (four consecutive weeks) on a medical-surgical unit each term.

This role is virtual, based in Alberta. While the responsibilities can be performed remotely, the successful candidate must reside in Alberta.
